Overview
A Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) is an individualised plan developed for any employee, visitor, or regular building user who may not be able to evacuate independently in an emergency. PEEPs are required under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Equality Act 2010, and are developed through a combination of risk assessment and direct consultation with the individual concerned.
Why This Matters
Standard evacuation procedures are designed for the general population. However, employees or visitors with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, cognitive conditions, or temporary injuries may not be able to follow those procedures unaided. Without a PEEP, these individuals are at significantly greater risk during an emergency. A well-developed PEEP ensures every person can evacuate safely, demonstrates duty of care, and protects the organisation from legal liability.
Key Benefits
Legal compliance with the Fire Safety Order 2005 and Equality Act 2010
Ensures safe evacuation for all employees and visitors
Reduces risk of injury or fatality for vulnerable individuals
Demonstrates duty of care and corporate responsibility
Supports reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act
Improves overall emergency preparedness
Provides clear roles for colleagues assisting with evacuation
Evidence of due diligence for insurers and regulators

How We Can Help
Initial Assessment
We identify all individuals on your premises who may require a PEEP, including employees, regular contractors, and frequent visitors.
Individual Consultation
We consult directly with each individual to understand their specific needs, preferences, and any concerns about the evacuation process.
Plan Development
We develop a bespoke PEEP for each individual, covering evacuation routes, assistance arrangements, communication methods, and refuge procedures.
Staff Briefing
We brief the colleagues assigned to assist, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and are confident in carrying them out.
Practical Testing
We recommend and can supervise a practical test of each PEEP to identify any issues before an actual emergency occurs.
